Salwa started out as a small family business in 2004 when the core business of the company at that time was producing poultry for the two of the leading trade names; Prima and Bairaha. Having started off operations with 5,000 birds, we successfully grew our operations delivering 280,000 birds yearly by 2007. Following this sustained growth in production volumes, we expanded into distribution, wholesale and retailing making significant investment to strengthen our forward integration capabilities.
In 2016, we set up a Direct-Store-Delivery (DSD) distributor to work with retailers and manufacturers of packaged food products, seeking to avail top tier brands at the arm’s length of convenience-seeking consumers. To fulfill this proposition, we made further investments in developing centrally located warehousing along with extensive distribution and logistics services ranging from truckloads to mixed pallets and now, cater many classes of trade including supermarkets, independent retailers, convenience stores, drug chain, and many more. Today, we offer more than 500 Stock Keeping Units to nearly 8,000 Points of Sales in and around central Colombo and represent some of the top tier consumer brands in their distribution footprint. To leverage this fast evolving geographical footprint and the captive Point of Sales network, we launched our import division in 2017, working with a growing list of overseas principal seeking access to fledging consumer market of Sri Lanka. To date, these overseas distribution alliances represent three near-by sourcing markets namely India and Pakistan.
